The Talent Pool
WINNER: Open Minds Scholarship
I propose a solution to augment, not replace, the traditional internship experience. “The Talent Pool at Edinburgh Napier University” would be a web-based micro-internship program. Here, businesses could post short-term projects which could be completed at home, via the internet. Students who perform the tasks would accrue points which would add up to college credits, and would receive a stipend based on the depth and complexity of the assignment, and their proven level of experience. At the end of a project, the student would review and rate the business, and the business would do the same with the student, providing a valuable self-policing mechanism. In the end, “The Talent Pool” could exponentially increase the interactions between Edinburgh Napier students and the business community. Businesses would get targeted help when and where they need it and students have the opportunity to accrue a broad array of real-world experiences and professional contacts in an environment that does not interfere with their studies.
